the wedding cake that I am picturing is full of bright flowers cascading down each teir. But I don't like roses. Has anyone see a cake simmilar to this, and if so, what kind of flowers did they use and which ones last longer. my wedding is mullberry and it's in july.

You could use lilies, Oriental or Asiatic ones. They have large blooms and come in various colors. I'm not sure how long they would last though.

*gasp* don't like roses! :-) Hmmm, I'm trying to think of summer flowers, and failing miserably. I'd just ask your florist what they recommend. Or hit the library and have a look through the books on flowers yourself. Not much help, Page, sorry!

Suz, I don't like roses either...Sorry. I am having sunflowers, mums and daises of fall colors between the layers of my cake.

Page, my parents had a similar cake, only with daisies and lily-of-the-valley instead of roses. True, that was 30 years ago ... and it sounds like you're looking for something less white, though - what about gerberas or calla lilies ... ? What about berries still on the vine/stem? Strawberries, rasberries, blackberries ... you'd have to special-order these, and they wouldn't be cheap, but they're definitely not roses. (I don't like roses either, unless they're presented in creative conjunction with other flowers.)

*triple gasp*! :-) Ah well, all the more roses for me! Just so I can say I don't like somthing, I have to say I loathe lilies. Makes me think of funerals. I think the fruit idea is an excellent one. I think raspberries and blackberries are in season in July, so it might work. Daisies are pretty and inexpensive, and lasting. God, I'm useless at this!

I agree with Mara, Gerbras look great, or Camelias, I don't know how long they last though. I also like the fruit idea, you could have some flowers in an ivory/creamy colour mixed with mulberrys or some other fruit in the same deep rich colour. I think it would look great. OR maybe a heap of tiny little coloured flowers. I suggest you look through some mag's or talk to your florist for ideas for colours. Good luck ;]

Our florist we used did the cake decoration at our wedding. The bakery just dropped off the undecorated cake and let the florist do her thing at the reception site. She used the same flowers that were in our bouquets - tulips, plus some wax flower. The tulips held up well and we didn't need a lot of them for it to look beautiful! Looking back, I'm really glad we did it that way!

Lovebug, What is the internet site for the Wilton wedding cake magazine. I would love to see some pictures of cakes to get some ideas. Suznyc, I got your pictures, Thanks. Your cake was gorgeous with all the flowers on it. I think I will decorate my cake with flowers too. Is it generally cheaper to decorate it this way?
